LAS CRUCES

Rancho Las Cruces, a quietly guarded secret, is located near La Paz, Baja California. Situated on the coast of the Sea of Cortez with the Santa Cruz Mountains in the background, a translucent azure sea in the foreground and the mysterious island Ceralvo in the distance.

These are the sovereign elements of Las Cruces: ten thousand acres of majestic prevailing peace, the immensity of five miles of private coastline, the enchantment of a desert seaside oasis, towering palms and tropical fruit trees, the transparency of a silver sea, sandy white beaches and stately surrounding mountains. The sheer physical beauty and tranquility of Las Cruces is only scant flight hours away from maddening crowds and bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The Las Cruces resort, with its Spanish Colonial architecture, was built in 1948 and now operates as a private club. Distinguished, sophisticated members preserve the old world charm that is commensurate with its history and physical characteristics. Las Cruces is a place where guests, free from hassles and annoying crowds, are not only surrounded by natural beauty, they are pampered while enjoying Las Cruces’ charms, under the vivifying warmth of a tropical sun.

Visitors are invited to explore the desert by hiking one of our many hidden trails to amazing natural wonders. Rejuvenate the body by walking the original plantation paths, playing tennis on one of three courts, or trying paddle tennis for the first time. Shoot clay pigeons from either the skeet or the new sporting clays range, or improve your swing on the golf range and putting green, or enjoy an afternoon of croquet. Lose yourself among the porpoises and mantas by taking one of the many kayaks that are always available for your enjoyment.

Sport fish the Sea of Cortez, with ease, accompanied by our expert local fishermen, on one of our super pangas. Ride horseback into the hills on the Galiceno horses reputed to be the descendants of the herd of 135 left by Cortes. Travel our 300 year-old trails to little explored Indian cave paintings and “Las Pozas” (granite pools). Simply relax with a massage given by healing hands. Picnic in solitude on nearby beaches, inlets or sunbathe, beach comb, and snorkel. Day trips to Isla Espiritu Santo, the artist colony of Todos Santos, or the silver mining town of El Triumfo.

Las Cruces has a well-maintained hard clay 2,700 foot runway. The only access from La Paz is by a dirt road that passes through two locked gates. These gates insure safety and seclusion. The trip by automobile takes approximately 45 minutes. For people departing from Los Cabos, charter air service is available for the eighty-mile flight to Las Cruces.

Our resort consists of poolside rooms, ocean-view cabañas, private residences, a private church, a 2,700 foot airstrip, 3 tennis courts and other outdoor games. Our setting lends itself perfectly to intimate family reunions, weddings, celebratory events and meetings, with a comfortable capacity of 60-70 guests.

A. Nicolas Rodriguez, President of Club de Caza y Pesca Las Cruces, is a co-owner of Rancho Las Cruces. As chief executive, Niki continues to be successful in sustaining his goal of making the Las Cruces resort as warm and pleasurable as its climate, as beautiful as its beaches and as peaceful as its sequestered tranquility.
